About TAMULink

TAMULink, a service of Texas A&M Information Technology, is Texas A&M's campus wireless network that provides Internet and network access on the go. TAMULink primarily uses Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) for greater security and easier access for Texas A&M faculty, staff and students.

Connecting to TAMULink

When you view wireless networks at campus hotspots, you'll see two TAMULink options: **

  • tamulink-wpa
  • tamulink-guest
**Any other networks listed are not part of the official TAMULink system.

Connect to tamulink-wpa if you are a Texas A&M faculty, student or staff. If you need help configuring your device to connect, please click the Set-Up tab or visit Help Desk Central's Wireless page.

If you are an authorized guest on campus and have received a guest username and password from the Identity Management Office, connect to tamulink-guest and log in.

Note: If you are a visitor from an eduroam institution, connect to eduroam and log in with your home institution's credentials. See more information at Help Desk Central's eduroam page.

TAMULink Locations

See a map of TAMULink locations.
TAMULink is available in most classroom buildings and libraries on the College Station campus. It is also available in many smaller buildings on campus, and in some off-campus buildings. Look for a TAMULink sticker near the door of a building to see if wireless is available.

Texas A&M Guests

Texas A&M provides two ways for guests to access campus wireless:

  • Eduroam: The secure, worldwide wireless access service allows visitors from participating research and educational institutions to log in with their own credentials. A Texas A&M guest account is not needed. See Help Desk Central's eduroam page for more information.
  • TAMULink-guest: Temporary, no-charge guest accounts are available upon request to Texas A&M and Texas A&M affiliate departments.

Requesting Guest Accounts

Requests for guest accounts must be made by Texas A&M or Texas A&M affiliate departments. Departments wishing to use TAMULink guest accounts should:

  • Request guest accounts at least 48 hours before the needed date.
  • Issue each guest account to only one individual and not reuse the account.
  • Keep a record of guest account usage.

To request a guest account, send an email request to account-services@tamu.edu and include the following information:

  1. Name of the sponsoring department
  2. Name and NetID of the departmental sponsor making the request
  3. Service Required: TAMULink-guest
  4. Brief description of the relevant event or reason for the guest account
  5. Starting and ending dates and times for the desired access
  6. Name, phone number, and email address of the guest

Requesting Multiple Guest Accounts

Departments requiring multiple accounts should complete the request email and contact the Identity Management Office at 979.862.4300 for special handling.

TAMULink Frequently Asked Questions

  • Click a topic to show the answer (
  • Show All
  • or
  • Hide All
  • )
  • What Is WPA?
WPA is a security technology for wireless networks, which scrambles or encrypts wireless traffic to protect information.
  • How does WPA Improve TAMULink?
    • Better security. WPA uses a more robust encryption protocol than previous technologies, making TAMULink safer.
    • Easy to set up. You don't need to download any additional software because WPA uses your computer's built-in system features.
    • Convenient to use. When you turn on your computer or wake it from sleep, it automatically attempts to connect to TAMULink. You don't need to alter any settings, just enter your NetID and password.
    • Flexible. You can roam freely within a building.
  • What kind of wireless card can I use with TAMULink?
The current TAMULink wireless network supports 802.11g compliant cards. If you have a wireless card that supports 802.11g or have purchased a wireless card that supports 802.11g it should work with TAMULink.

TAMULink is currently adding support for 802.11n in select locations across campus. So, if you are buying a new wireless network card, we recommend purchasing a dual-band 802.11n capable card (a/b/g/n) to take advantage of the increased performance.
  • What if I don't have a wireless card?
You can still connect to the network, but you'll have to connect through one of the public access wired outlets. Currently, the only place where these are located is on the second floor of the Student Computing Center in the "Group Study" area.
  • What locations currently offer TAMULink service?
A list of current locations is available on the Locations tab. If other wireless networks appear that do not have the "tamulink" name or are labeled as "computer to computer" or "ad hoc" networks, they are not part of the official TAMULink wireless system. Please note that connecting to "computer to computer" or "ad hoc" networks can be a high security risk.
  • What kind of connection/speeds will TAMULink give me?
Currently 802.11g is rated at 54 Mbps. This is a shared network environment and actual speeds may vary. If you are using 802.11b, network speed is significantly reduced.
  • Can I roam freely with my TAMULink connection?
Yes, you should be able to roam freely within the building. However, you will not be able to roam from a TAMULink location in one building to a different TAMULink location in another building. That will require reconnecting to TAMULink.
  • How can a department request TAMULink service for a building?
    Send an email to request@tamu.edu.
