TAMULink-WPA for MacOS X 10.4

Introduction

TAMULink-WPA is a new wireless network that allows for greater flexibility and security when accessing the campus wireless network.  WPA utilizes the 802.1x wireless technology.  This document will detail how to configure MacOS X to connect to this network.  Please check this page for a current list of supported buildings.

 


 

Connecting

  1. Click the Airport icon in your menu bar. If you see the tamulink-wpa SSID listed, you will be able to connect to this network.
  2. Click on “Open Internet Connect” (Figure 1).

  1. In Internet Connect, select “802.1X.” at the top of the screen (Figure 2).
  2. Note: If you don't see the 802.1X icon, click File >> New 802.1X Connection... in the menu bar.

  1. Choose “Edit Configurations” from the Configuration pull-down menu (Figure 3).

  1. In this configuration window, enter the following values where requested:

    Description: tamulink-wpa

    Username: Your NetID (make sure to use all lowercase characters)

    Password: Your Neo password

    Wireless network: tamulink-wpa

  2. Under Authentication, TTLS, LEAP, PEAP, and MD5 should be selected automatically. Make sure these are selected and in the that order. You can change the order by dragging and dropping them in to the appropriate place. Once this is done click on “OK” (Figure 4).

  1. When you first connect to the tamulink-wpa network, you will be asked to approve a security certificate. Click on Show Certificate.

  1. Check the box that says 'Always trust net.tamu.edu' and press Continue.

  1. You will now be connected to the tamulink-wpa secure network. You should have an Internet Connect window with a Status: Connected message at the bottom (Figure 6).

When connecting to the tamulink-wpa network in the future, you will only need to select “tamulink-wpa” from the available wireless networks. You will be asked for your NetID and Neo password. Once you have signed on, you will be automatically connected.
